Today is day 10, and we’re finally in Guatemala!
Our squad had a full week of training in Georgia. I did not expect that at all haha. I really had to surrender my expectations for what the month was going to look like, and God met me in abundance. We spent most of the week seeking the Lord in worship and intercession and learning about culture and evangalism. Today, one of our hosts in Guatemala mentioned that to serve effectively we have to learn how to recieve well. I didn’t expect to spend a whole week recieving before starting ministy, but I’m incredibly thankful that I get to go into the rest of this trip filled and prepared.

We left for the Atlanta airport Saturday night, and stayed there overnight before our flight Sunday morning. We flew to our layover in Newark, made it to our gate, and then found out our flight to Guatemala had been cancelled due to power outages in the country. Thus began a very bonding 24hrs for the squad. We hunted for the cheapest possible airport foods, worshiped and prayed, and stayed overnight in an airport for the second night in a row. Thankfully we got a flight out at 11am the next day, and were in country by Monday afternoon. We spent that night at a school that partners with Adventures in Missions, and then drove the rest of the way to the AIM base early this morning to find out what ministries we’d be working with!

Our squad is split into 4 teams that all have different ministry placements for this month. My team is Team Maranatha, which means Come Lord! We are going to be doing ministy with an organization called Dar Para Dar, and living in a house at a place called Prayer Mountain. I still don’t know a lot of details about what our days are going to look like, but it sounds like we are going to do prayer ministry, feeding ministry, kids ministry, and possible build houses.
God has been teaching me a lot, but I’m going to share just one thing from earlier today. One of the long term missionaries with AIM in Guatemala, who works primarily with mobilizing Guatemalens as missionaries to the middle east, told a bit of his story at orientaion. He kept highlighting his yes to God. He talked about how each time we say yes to God it leads to our next yes to God. Every yes stretches us and grows us into the type of person we need to be for the yes after that. I’m on this trip because I said yes to God. God reminded me that this yes, and every other one I have ever given Him, is preparing me for my calling and forming me more into who He created me to be!
My team officially starts ministry tomorrow! Pray that God would use us and that we would keep saying yes to Him as a team!
THE TEAM!!
